Job title:
Airfield Engineer at Cornwall Airport Newquay
Location:
Cornwall

What inspired you to go into engineering?
Honestly it was more by accident than design. I left school with A levels and no plan, worked in a couple of jobs that I was good at, but were desk based with no real variety. I had friends that were in the Forces which inspired me to look into joining the RAF - I chose Electronics Technician as I wanted to have a trade that I would be able to take with me.
What do you love about your job?
The variety - every day is different. We have a wide range of equipment here so it is always interesting. It's challenging, but in a good way, and I am learning constantly. I really enjoy working in aviation as it's a very dynamic environment. I am lucky to work with a great team of people and that is priceless.. Lastly, all the biscuits..
What advice would you give to a young person looking to start a career in your industry?
Show interest and enthusiasm and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Why would you encourage more girls to pursue a career like yours?
Engineering is for everyone - it's a big space with lots of different roles and opportunities. It's very fulfilling knowing that I am helping to maintain our airfield, working on equipment that is safety critical for our operations.
